Melissa is serving as the Interim Vice President for the School of Extended Learning at SBCC. She is the former Dean of Educational Programs for Business, and also the former founding Director of the Scheinfeld Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation at SBCC. In addition, she is the founder of the SBCC Career Skills Institute, which now trains thousands of employees in our community. Under Melissa’s leadership, the Scheinfeld Center became a national award-winning program and now serves as a national educational model for other colleges.
For 23 years, Melissa was owner and CEO of an independent hotel company in Arizona and Montana. She also consults for small businesses and start-ups.
Melissa completed her undergraduate studies at University of California, Santa Barbara, and received her Juris Doctorate from the College of Law in Santa Barbara. She is admitted to the California State Bar and is a licensed California Real Estate Broker.

Andrew G. Harper, Senior Director

Andy Harper was appointed Executive Director of Santa Barbara City College’s Center for Lifelong Learning (now SBCC School of Extended Learning) in February 2013. Andy has worked for the SBCC Continuing Education Division as a program director since 2009. Prior to moving across Highway 101 to SBCC, Andy worked for nine years at UCSB Extension as Director of Language and Culture Programs.
Before discovering the wonders of Santa Barbara, Andy led something of a peripatetic life. He held administrative positions at the University of Tampa in Florida, the University of Central Florida, Sultan Qaboos University in the Sultanate of Oman, and at Schreiner College in Kerrville, Texas. In addition, Andy has also lived and been a classroom teacher in London (England), Montpellier (France), Cairo (Egypt), and San Sebastian (Spain).
Andy has a B.A. degree in Comparative Literature from the University of East Anglia (U.K), and an M.A. degree in English as a Second Language from the University of Hawaii. His certifications also include Executive Leadership, Program Planning, Marketing, and e-Marketing.
Kendall Harris, Associate Director

In May 2010, Kendall Harris joined the SBCC Continuing Education Division as a Program Director and is now an Associate Director for the SBCC School of Extended Learning. Ken directs schedule development for classes and programs in Computers, Crafts (General, Jewelry, Sewing & Quilting, Woodworking), Culinary Arts, Fine Arts, Film, Languages, Music, and Performing Arts.
After growing up in Southern California and graduating from San Diego State with a Bachelor of Arts and Masters Degree in Drama, Kendall began his career in Minneapolis, Minnesota. While there, he created many nationally broadcast productions for a large PBS affiliate. He remained at PBS for 12 years as a Production Designer, Director of Creative Services and an award-winning television lighting director.
Returning to San Diego, he began teaching at San Diego City College as a full-time faculty member in Theatre, Television and Film. Continuing in the Community College system, he relocated to Seattle, Washington where, for 11 years he worked as the Director of Continuing Education and Director of Business Enterprise Activities for North Seattle Community College. Kendall and his wife, Penny, are excited to be back in his home state and settled into the beautiful city of Santa Barbara.
